Research Opportunities<\/strong><\/h1>

Prospective Graduate Students<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>

PhD Programs (for a doctoral degree):\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong>We are accepting highly motivated graduate students who are eager to explore the molecular secrets of nature – from the atomic level to whole-organism biology. Admission to the lab is only possible through UC Davis PhD programs<\/span><\/strong><\/a> (following a successful rotation), preferably (but not limited) via the the Biochemistry, Molecular, Cellular and Developmental Biology<\/em> (BMCDB<\/a><\/span>), Plant Biology<\/em> (PBGG<\/span><\/a>), Biophysics, <\/em>or Integrative Genetics and Genomics<\/em> (IGG<\/a><\/span>) graduate groups.<\/p>

Dr. Shabek is also a member and chair of the DEB<\/span><\/a> (Designated Emphasis in Biotechnology), mentor in the Chemical Biology Group<\/em> (CBP<\/span><\/a>), the eMCB<\/a><\/span>\u00a0NIH-T32 training program<\/em>, the NSF-Bioindustrial Engineering for a Sustainable Tomorrow<\/em>, and the Cancer Therapeutics Program<\/em> (CTP<\/a><\/span>).<\/p>

MSc (for a Master degree):\u00a0<\/strong>The Master\u2019s degree at UC Davis is typically a two-year program<\/strong>\u00a0and offers an excellent opportunity to solidify and expand research skills and knowledge in a relatively short timeframe.\u00a0Students can apply through various graduate programs on campus. Postdoctoral candidates<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>

We are seeking highly motivated postdoctoral researchers with strong backgrounds in biochemistry, plant biology, structural biology, and\/or systems biology<\/strong> to investigate the structure\u2013function of hormone signaling and regulation by the ubiquitin system in plants.<\/p>

A successful candidate must meet at least 5 of the following 7 requirements<\/strong>:
1. PhD in Biochemistry, Structural Biology, Plant Biology, or related field (no more than 1\u20132 years of postdoctoral training beyond the PhD).
2. Extensive experience with molecular biology and cloning techniques<\/strong>.
3. Proven expertise in protein expression systems<\/strong> (E. coli and\/or insect cells) and large-scale protein purification<\/strong> using chromatographic methods.
4. Strong and documented background in structural biology<\/strong> (X-ray crystallography and\/or cryo-EM).
5. Demonstrated ability and willingness to mentor junior scientists<\/strong> with effective communication skills.
6. Experience in plant biochemistry<\/strong> and\/or modern plant biology methodologies in Arabidopsis or other model\/crop plant systems<\/strong>.
7. Experience in systems biology approaches<\/strong>, including multi-omics analysis<\/strong> (e.g., proteomics, interactomics, transcriptomics, or metabolomics) and their integration.<\/p>
